We're teaming up with the 59 North this year at the Annapolis Boat Show to take part in their Seam'nship Workshop! This three day seminar will teach you how to THINK like an ocean sailor. Hosted by professional sailors Nikki Henderson, Andy Schell and the rest of the 59 North Team, learn seam’nship essentials and absorb their wisdom gained from the high seas. DAY 1: seam'nship
WEDNESDAY OCT. 11
0900-1500
Nikki Henderson, Andy Schell and Brady Trautman will lead a full-day session on HOW TO BE A SKIPPER, focusing on leadership and good decision-making — the essential, foundational elements of good seam’nship. The basis of this day will include several ‘Seam’nship Scenarios’, whereby Nikki, Andy and Brady debrief real-life events that have happened to them on the high seas or inshore, talk about what they did right or wrong, and how the experiences have made them better sailors and leaders. This day will be heavy on audience participation through Q&A and discussion-based sessions.
DAY 2: weather & more!
thursday OCT. 12
0900-1500
Nikki & Andy offer a full-day, in-depth session on weather forecasting and weather routing. Understanding weather models and forecasting tools, and using those tools to anticipate and prepare for the weather is the single most important part of offshore sailing. By understanding the weather you’ll never be caught off guard and will always be in a position to make good decisions, no matter what the actual weather throws at you.
Day2: ‘WHY WE SAIL’ PANEL & SAILORS SOCIAL
THURSDAY OCTOBER 12
1700-2100
Don’t miss this opportunity to become a part of our offshore sailing community! We’ll kick off the evening with a fun and inspiring panel discussion titled WHY WE SAIL, which will go into the philosophical sides of our technical presenters for Friday. Then, HAAKON VATLE OF STORM WEATHER SHANTY CHOIR will provide ongoing entertainment throughout the low-key social evening. Join the entire 59º North team, plus our special guests for an informal night of chatting sailing and getting to know like-minded people.
*If you would like to book the happy hour ONLY it's $20.
DAY 3: compact cruising guide
friday OCT. 13
0900-1500
For our Friday sessions we're bringing in the gurus to discuss a variety of crucial topics relevant to all sailors, both coastal and offshore. Each guest speaker will give a ‘TED’-style talk of approximately 30 minutes. The presenters will remain in the venue for the rest of the day for further Q&A. Speakers include:
-
NIGEL CALDER: Safe Electrical Systems
-
CHUCK O’MALLEY: Sails For Your Rig & Boat
-
MEG REILLY: Encouraging Women in Sailing
-
ALEX BLUE: Documenting Your Adventure
-
…and the one and only HAAKON VATLE OF STORM WEATHER SHANTY CHOIR!
-
If you can only attend one day, this will offer the broadest range of topics and experience and leave you with the widest variety of knowledge to take home.
venue
Ram’s Head is a restaurant/bar with a small concert venue attached. We’ll be in the concert venue side, which is setup perfectly for these types of events, and can comfortably accommodate 300+ people, all with a front-row view of the workshop sessons. High-quality audio & video, fantastic lighting, comfortable seating and food and beverage service from the restaurant staff!
We’ll convert the schoolhouse seating into a stand-up cocktail bar atmosphere for the Thursday evening Happy Hour event. And anyone who wants to hang out after the sessions are over can meet at the bar next door for a pint and some food!
