Want to test your skills and expand your sailing experience with real offshore miles? This one-of-a-kind 14-day expedition from La Cruz to the remote Socorro Islands and back is a true deep-sea adventure. It's the perfect opportunity for sailors who want to gain serious mileage, build blue-water confidence, and sail to one of the most remote marine parks in North America.
You'll kick off this journey in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, a lively little harbor town on mainland Mexico, and begin with some hands-on review of live-aboard fundamentals—anchoring drills, sail handling, weather routing, offshore prep, and safety systems. Then we cast off for the open Pacific, setting sail for the Revillagigedo Archipelago, over 340 nautical miles offshore from La Cruz.
Expect overnight passages, watches under star-filled skies, big swell, and the magic that comes with being completely disconnected from the modern world. Each crewmember will rotate through roles—navigator, cook, helmsman, sail trimmer—and gain a holistic understanding of what it takes to confidently skipper a cruising boat offshore.
Once we reach the wild volcanic islands of Socorro and possibly the surrounding islands of San Benedicto, and Roca Partida, we’ll explore what’s possible by sailboat—anchoring in the lee of towering cliffs, scanning the water for mantas and dolphins, and soaking in the raw, otherworldly energy of this protected marine reserve and UNESCO world hertitage site.
These islands are only accessible by permit, and we’ll plan our visit around weather, swell, and wildlife activity. Then we sail back to the mainland with a new sense of what you're capable of—and a whole lot more confidence under your sea legs.
The trip includes your personalized instruction, accommodations aboard including all food and bev., safety equipment, and course materials. We ask students to board Lintika by 12pm the first day the course begins.
March weather typically offers ideal conditions for a Socorro trip: consistent breeze, cooler nights (lows around 65°), and warm days on the water (highs in the 80s).
